Math Rush Volume 2 is available on Amazon here.

{This game was given to me free of charge. However, all opinions are my own!}

Read on for a detailed REVIEW.

Along with the cool science games, Periodic and Cytosis, Math Rush Volumes 1 and 2 were included in the batch of games that the uber-talented game masters over at Genius Games sent me. Math Rush Volume 2 plays exactly like Math Rush Volume 1, except instead of Addition and Subtraction, Volume 2 focuses mainly on multiplication {with a few challenging exponents thrown in as well.}

In addition to reviewing the

FUN FACTOR

and the EDUCATIONAL VALUE,

I will also include info on the

ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENT,

SKILLS USED,

CLARITY LEVEL

and an OVERALL SCORE.

SKILLS PRACTICED:

  • speed
  • cooperation

HOW TO WIN: This game is a great cooperative game where players work together to win!

HOW TO PLAY IN ONE SENTENCE: Using a three-minute timer, work with other players to reach a set goal by playing the cards in your hand based on specific rules including evens/odds, ascending/descending, divisible by specific numbers, and more.

ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENT: ♥♥♥__This game consists of 108 normal-size cards and one set of foldable directions packaged in a basic paper box. The cards are high quality with vibrant colors and a sleek coating but the box is far from being my favorite feature. It is designed with a lid that is supposed to tuck/untuck into itself and already has a small tear in it after only two uses. I’ll use some colorful duct tape to fix it up and prevent the tear from getting worse, but a box with a separate lid would definitely be an improvement. ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENT SCORE: 4/5 ♥♥♥__

FUN FACTOR: ♥♥ Instead of being a competitive game, just like Math Rush Volume 1, this is a cooperative math game! Not only does this make for a nice change of pace, I believe there is great value in learning to play together towards a common goal. It is also a fast-paced game, which adds to the fun! Math Rush Volume 2 would serve well as a time-filler in classrooms, co-op groups, or homeschool lessons with multiple kids. But, you can even play alone, which makes it a very versatile game! FUN FACTOR SCORE: 5/5 ♥♥

EDUCATIONAL VALUE: ♥♥ This game is a fun way to practice multiplication facts. There are also some optional Advanced Cards that allow players to challenge themselves with exponents. Players also need to focus on whether an answer is odd/even, pay attention to the divisibility rules that sometimes pop up, and also watch whether the answer fits in the required ascending/descending order. The total number of cards played also needs to be monitored. So, while the skills necessary to play are fairly basic, players are expected to use more than one skill at a time. All in all, it’s a great way to practice basic facts and it’s much more fun and challenging than flashcards! EDUCATIONAL VALUE SCORE: 5/5 ♥♥

CLARITY LEVEL: ♥♥ This game plays exactly like Math Rush Volume 1 so we were able to play this with barely a glance at the instructions. But, as noted in my review of Math Rush Volume 1, when we first played that game, I was a wee bit confused at first. But, it was not due to a lack of clear instructions, but rather to assumptions and expectations on my part. So, if you take the time to read first, unlike me, you will do just fine. It truly is a simple game with clear instructions! Oh, and they provide a QR code that shows how to play the game too! CLARITY LEVEL SCORE: 5/5 ♥♥

OVERALL SCORE: ♥♥♥__ Math Rush Volume 2 is a fun, fast, and friendly way to practice multiplication facts! The math is challenging enough to serve an educational purpose, quick enough to not ruin lessons for the day, and fun enough to be engaging for multiple levels! OVERALL SCORE: 95% ♥♥♥__

Be sure to check out Math Rush Volume 1 too!
