Mathological Liar has been on my Amazon Wish List for years and I am so glad I finally made the time to review it! They have 5 different versions {one for each grade 2-6} so I opted for the middle version and purchased Grade 4.

In addition to reviewing the
FUN FACTOR
and the EDUCATIONAL VALUE,
I will also include info on the

CLARITY LEVEL
and an OVERALL SCORE.

HOW TO WIN: Be the first to reach the agreed-upon number of points.
HOW TO PLAY IN ONE SENTENCE: Figure out if your given alibi makes you innocent by correctly deciding whether your suspect’s math is correct.
EDUCATIONAL VALUE: ♥♥♥♥♥ This game is a brilliant way to work on word problems! Each box contains 50 cases. And each case has four suspects. Each suspect tries to prove his/her innocence through a math word problem. If the math problem is accurate, that suspect is innocent. If the math problem is incorrect, the suspect is guilty. So, in total, the game contains 200 word problems that kids need to solve. Each case clearly spells out the math skills being addressed which makes it a great way to pick and choose specific topics for review purposes. Paper can be used but much of the expectation is for mental math to be used. And, since there are sets for Grades 2-6, loads of skills are highlighted with this series of games. EDUCATIONAL VALUE SCORE: 5/5 ♥♥♥♥♥

FUN FACTOR: ♥♥♥♥♥ Mathological Liar was way more fun than I expected it to be! Each round is a silly mystery of sorts; many of which have more than one guilty party. Players need to solve math problems to find out who is guilty and who is innocent. The cases are ridiculous situations {somebody is making birdhouses and leaving them around town for instance} and fun to solve. It’s quick to play and is way more fun than doing word problems from a textbook! FUN FACTOR SCORE: 5/5 ♥♥♥♥♥

ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENT: ♥♥♥♥__ Mathological Liar comes in a small box with 200 cards and a set of directions. The cards and box are colorful and sturdy. The directions, though, are made up of just an 8.5×11 piece of paper printed on both sides. The only way it can fit in the box is to fold it several times. If the directions were not absolutely necessary to keep, this would not be a big deal but since the Answer Key is part of the directions, the paper needs to be referenced several times each game. If I was going to use this game in a classroom setting {or with multiple kids at home,} I’d probably figure out a way to print the Answer Key on small cards, laminate them and store them in the box. ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENT SCORE: 4/5 ♥♥♥♥__

CLARITY LEVEL: ♥♥♥♥♥ Though it’s a little hard to explain in a post like this, the directions included with the game are very simple and clear. As long ad The Answer Key is readily available, even unsupervised kids should be able to play without any issues. CLARITY LEVEL SCORE: 5/5 ♥♥♥♥♥

OVERALL SCORE: ♥♥♥♥__ Mathological Liar is a BRILLIANT IDEA! My only regret is that I did not purchase it when my son was younger because I know this would have helped him tremendously with a variety of math skills! Mathological Liar is quick to play with an interesting, mysterious approach and covers dozens of math skills in one box! If I was still in the classroom or had younger kids at home, I would snap up every level of Mathological Liar! They have Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5 and Grade 6! OVERALL SCORE: 95% ♥♥♥♥_
