After Amazon suggested I buy a variety of Guess in 10 games on multiple occasions, I finally decided to give one a try and started out with Guess in 10 States of America. {You can read that review here.} We enjoyed the style {similar to the oral game I grew up playing, Twenty Questions} so we decided to give another version a try! Since my son wants to go into zoology, he requested we try the Animal Planet version. And, I am so glad we did! Though we liked Guess in 10 States of America, this animal version about was even more fun for us!

HOW TO WIN: Be the first to earn seven cards by guessing the correct animal after ten or fewer questions.
HOW TO PLAY IN ONE SENTENCE: Guess the animal card your opponent is holding by asking up to ten yes/no questions.
EDUCATIONAL VALUE: ♥♥♥♥♥ I’m not going to lie. At first, I found myself frustrated at the choice of buzzwords provided on the cards. They seemed to be a strange mix of too obvious and barely applicable to the animal in question. And the cards were inconsistent. Some had two obvious buzzwords, some had three barely applicable buzzwords and some had a combination of the two. But, the more we played, the more I bought into Skillmatic’s method. It encourages the players to think outside the box, which, in my opinion, is a good thing. It also prevents players from honing in on an animal instantly and forces them to narrow the field with their questions. But, probably my favorite educational feature of this game is that EVERYBODY is learning ALL THE TIME! The guesser is obviously learning by asking good questions, narrowing the field, reassessing information, etc. But, the cardholder is also actively learning as well. Not only are they staring at some foundational animal facts the entire time, but they also have to answer all of the questions thrown at them. Whether they use the facts on the card, pull up some past knowledge from their noggin, or peek at a reference book for help, they are actively learning as well. EDUCATIONAL VALUE SCORE: 5/5 ♥♥♥♥♥
FUN FACTOR: ♥♥♥♥♥ Guess in 10 Animal Planet was definitely a fun experience for a variety of reasons. We loved the topic {animals!} We were able to play while dinner was cooking {fast!} It was not too easy {not boring!} Will my teenager bring it out at his next birthday bash? Probably not. Would it serve as a great way for a small group of kids to entertain and educate themselves in between lessons? Absolutely! FUN FACTOR SCORE: 5/5 ♥♥♥♥♥
ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENT: ♥♥♥♥♥ Guess in 10 Animal Planet comes in a small-medium box with 50 animal cards, 6 clue cards and directions. Everything is housed inside a cardboard sleeve and then tucked inside the box. The box is sturdy and easy to open with a separate lid. The cards are both colorful and sturdy. However, the directions are printed on a thin tri-fold of paper and I could see how they would not survive long in a classroom setting. But laminating them would likely solve that small issue. ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENT SCORE: 5/5 ♥♥♥♥♥
CLARITY LEVEL: ♥♥♥♥♥ The directions are clear and concise. The rules are very easy to understand and the game is simple to play. We read the directions one time and never needed to reference them again. Younger kids might find it helpful to keep a card available when asking questions. Being able to reference what type of information is included on the cards should help formulate better questions. CLARITY LEVEL SCORE: 5/5 ♥♥♥♥♥
OVERALL SCORE: ♥♥♥♥__ Just like with Guess in 10 States of America, my son and I were surprised at the challenge this game offers. We definitely did better with this edition than the geography version but, still, it was not easy. When ALL you have to go on our are the two buzzwords printed on the card, it can be a serious challenge to narrow down your thoughts to formulate good questions! But, the more we played, the better we got. And, we plan to play some more! OVERALL SCORE: 90% ♥♥♥♥_
