ADSUMUDI is available on Amazon HERE.

{I purchased this game myself. All opinions are my own!}

Read on for a detailed REVIEW.

I think I found out about this game thanks to Amazon’s amazing knack of knowing just what I need, ha ha. Though I usually decline their suggestions, I am glad I checked this one out because Adsumudi is a great addition to our selection of math games! And, after reading this review, you just might think so too!

In addition to reviewing the

FUN FACTOR and the

EDUCATIONAL VALUE,

I will also include info on the

ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENT,

TIME COMMITMENT

CLARITY LEVEL

and an OVERALL SCORE

NAME: Adsumudi

PUBLISHER: The Master Theorem Games

CATEGORY: Math

SUB CATEGORY: All four operations

TIME COMMITMENT: Minimal {15 minutes}

PLAYERS: 2-8

AGES9+

HOW TO WIN: Collect five cards by being the first to solve the mental math equations!

CLARITY LEVEL: This game is super simple to play! It’s not EASY, necessarily, but the steps to play are simple. We read the directions once and off we flew, never to reference them again!  CLARITY LEVEL SCORE: 5/5

FUN FACTOR: _ The tagline is “A monstrously fun game of creative mental math!” And it is fun but it also uses a lot of brain power! My son even said “that game made my brain hurt, but in a good way!” It truly is ALL done in your noggin’ so if you have a kid who struggles with that, be warned. Being able to use basic mental math is an important skill but some kids might find it not-so-fun to play this game because not only do you need to figure out the equation in your brain, you have to keep track of it until you share it with others. Also, we did find it a teeny bit frustrating that there is no list of solutions included in the box. We stared at some cards for longer than I care to admit trying to create a four or five step equation. But, there is an easy-to-use site that offers hints for each card and level.   FUN FACTOR SCORE: 4/5 _

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:  As mentioned above, being able to do mental math is a very valuable skill and this game speaks right to that! As a matter of fact, that is ALL it is. Pure mental math!  The best part of the game is that you can use all four functions AND each player can select their own level {easy, medium, hard or monstrously hard} so it offers great practice to players of ALL skills levels at the same time! EDUCATIONAL LEVEL SCORE: 5/5

ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENT:   I was surprised when Adsumudi arrived in such a small box, but I LOVE it. It’s a sturdy, colorful and perfect 5.5″ square box.  The contents include 52 two-sided hexagon-shaped cards that are fairly thick, very colorful and easy to read! There is also a set of fold-out instructions, but that’s it in the little box! It’s a dream game for moms who like things tidy, but also a great game for families who tend to get messy because there are no itty bitty pieces to lose or plastic spinners to break. Plus, if a card or twelve gets lost, it does not impact gameplay at all! ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENT: 5/5

OVERALL SCORE:  This game was a wee bit taxing on my brain but it was still fun AND definitely ranks highest in educational value. I also love the compact size, which makes it great for travel or even just to keep handy for appointments and such. It’s also a huge winner in the sense that kids/adults of varying levels can play at the same time!  OVERALL SCORE: 95%

If you are ready to snag a “A monstrously fun game of creative mental math” that might hurt your brain just a bit, you can buy it here on Amazon.

If you would like to read detailed instructions, continue on….

STEP ONE: Open box and place stack of cards in the center for all to see.

STEP TWO: each player decides whether to play Easy, Medium, Hard or Monstrously Hard.

  • Easy needs to use two or more numbers in the equation
  • Medium needs to use three or more numbers in the equation
  • Hard needs to use four or more numbers in the equation
  • Monstrously Hard needs to use all five numbers in the equation

STEP THREE: At the same time, all players look at the answer {on the black section} and try to use the numbers that surround that number to come up with that answer using any combo of addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.

STEP FOUR: The first player to use the needed numbers to reach the answer yells “Adsumudi!”

STEP FIVE: Play is paused.

STEP SIX: The player who shouted “Adsumudi,” gets to explain how he/she reached the asnwer.

STEP SEVEN: If he/she is correct, the card goes to that player and all players work to solve the next card.

STEP EIGHT: If he/she was incorrect, there is no penatly and play resumes until somebody solves the card.

STEP NINE: The first player to earn five cards, wins!

MODIFICATIONS: Allow players to write their work down.

EXAMPLES:

13 – 9 = 4 would qualify as an EASY answer

9 + 13 – 18 = 4 would qualify as a MEDIUM answer

14 – 5 = 9 would qualify as an EASY answer

14 + 2 – 7 = 9 would qualify as a MEDIUM answer

14/2 + 7 – 5 = 9 would qualify as a HARD answer
