The WOLFe Pack Unit Studies are being updated, revamped and repackaged. During this tedious process, some printable packs will be free and others will be listed as $1.50. Eventually, they will all cost $1.50 but the images “out there” may still advertise the printable pack as free. I apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may cause. Thank you for your patience and grace during this transition.
REINDEER UNIT STUDY
Another confession from me! Before working on this UNIT STUDY, I had NO IDEA that REINDEER and CARIBOU were the same animals. Seriously, NO CLUE. But, now I do! I’ll add that to the long list of things I learned along the way while teaching! And, just like with The Arctic Unit Study, our recent trip to Alaska added so much knowledge {and first-hand experience} to these cool creatures!
If you find it handy to have a simplified printable of these suggestions, you can find one, along with all of the mentioned printables, in the Reindeer Unit Study Printable Pack.

READ ABOUT REINDEER
Once again, I have chosen a beautiful book from Jan Brett, The Wild Christmas Reindeer, to start a unit study. I just cannot get enough of her lovely and clever ways that she makes the animals real and unreal at the same time. She always manages to keep the animals true to their nature while also allowing them to talk, or in this case, fly. And her illustrations are always unparalleled. This book provides a sweet little intro to REINDEER and with the Reindeer Unit Study Printable Pack, you can be sure your kiddos understand the story.
Another super cute fictional REINDEER book is Olive, The Other Reindeer by Seibold and Walsh. It’s about a dog named Olive who thinks she is the “other” REINDEER. If you don’t know the book, you should. It’s rather funny and clever. Plus, there is a cute writing activity to go with it. More info below.
If you’re wanting to read about real REINDEER, Reindeer On the Move by Ginjer Clarke is a good place to start. Not only does it go over a lot of kid-sized REINDEER facts, but it also highlights a lot about their migration. And the comprehension and sequencing pages found in the Reindeer Unit Study Printable Pack will help cement some of that REINDEER info.

Another great non-fiction REINDEER book is Reindeer (A Day in the Life: Polar Animals) . With each page including one vibrant photograph and just two sentences of text, it’s perfect for young readers. It’s a Caribou! by Kerry Dinmont is another easy reader filled with REINDEER {aka: Caribou} facts. Caribou: Wind Walkers of the Northern Wilderness, on the other hand, is more of a coffee table book featuring 140 beautiful images and meatier text. All would make great non-fiction options about REINDEER!
WRITE ABOUT REINDEER
As mentioned above, the Reindeer Unit Study Printable Pack includes a fun writing activity that is perfect to use with Olive, The Other Reindeer.
{Here is my Frog REINDEER, Ribber, who looks way more like an alien than a frog. But, hopefully, you get the idea.}

And if you have a paragraph-writer on your hands, there is a version for that student as well.
There is also a writing prompt (with two types of lines) that asks the student to imagine life as a reindeer and explain if they think a reindeer life would be difficult or not.

LEARN ABOUT REINDEER
In the printable pack, there is a one page non-fiction reading passage and another page of comprehension questions for a quick, easy way to learn some REINDEER facts.

CREATE REINDEER CRAFTS
As you can imagine, there are gazillion different REINDEER crafts on Pinterest. Apparently, you can make REINDEER out of just about anything including toilet paper rolls, egg cartons, pinecones, handprints, candy canes, popsicle sticks, and, of course, just plain old paper.
EXPLORE REINDEER
You may also want to check out the fairly new REINDEER documentary, A Reindeer’s Journey, available on Amazon Prime. It tells the real story of a newborn REINDEER and his journey through the first year of life.
For a fun, less-educational option, of course, there is the classic TV movie, Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
ENJOY REINDEER
While your kids watch the Rudolph movie, be sure to serve up a plate of these Reindeer Cracker Snacks! Made with round crackers, peanut butter, pretzel twists and a couple of chocolate chips, they are super cute, easy to make and mostly healthy! You can also make them with celery sticks or graham crackers!
And to turn your time with Rudolph back into an educational opportunity, check out this RUDOLPH CAROL LITERACY PACK. It offers five different activities to work on several literacy skills while learning the lyrics to this classic Christmas carol. And most activities include different versions which makes the pack great for a variety of learners.
