I was paid a wee bit to write this review, but just like with all things from The WOLFe Pack, what you will find here is an honest opinion from a seasoned homeschool mom with a Master’s Degree in Education and a decade of experience in the classroom…who also happens to be a mom with way too little sleep, too much fluff and only 18 months left on her homeschool clock.

GREG LANDRY HOMESCHOOL SCIENCE: ACT PREP
When offered the opportunity to review two of Greg Landry’s Homeschool Science courses, I immediately knew I wanted to review the ACT Prep course! Afterall, my teenager is staring down the need to take the ACT in just a few months.
Last spring, we had him take the ACT totally COLD. And, by “cold,” I mean that he did zilch studying, took zero sample tests and spent nada time researching test-taking strategies. We just wanted him to experience the test…from stepping foot on the public school campus for the first time to filling in bubbles with a number two pencil…from trying to gauge his time to deciding when to guess…from fighting the need to read every word in a passage to feeling the anxiety of waiting on his score. We just wanted him to experience it all so he could shake the nerves, figure out what to do differently and prepare for the next time.
So, the opportunity to review Greg Landry’s ACT Prep course was perfect for us!
Read on for a full review!

WHO IS GREG LANDRY?
Before we start looking at the details of the ACT Prep course, let me tell you about the creator of Greg Landry’s Homeschool Science courses, Greg Landry.
Greg Landry…
- holds a master of science degree from Louisiana State University.
- is a former college professor.
- has been helping kids prep for the ACT for 15+ years.
- has taught science for 20+ years.
- is a published author in various scientific journals.
- has a heart for students and a passion for science.
- homeschooled his two daughters.
WHAT IS GREG LANDRY’S ACT PREP?
- is a self-paced online class focuses on ACT strategies, technique, familiarity, trend keys, question analysis, layout, question trends and similarities, etc.
- explains to your student what the ACT is truly testing and how to use that to his/her advantage.
- helps your student identify the predictable aspects of the test and where to focus his/her study time.
- shows your student how to recognize wrong answers that are designed to look like the right answer.
- reveals the huge mistake that 80% of students make on this test and how to avoid it.
- teaches your student the basic math formulas he/she will need to know.
- emphasizes the critical importance of timing and how to manage it.
- provides strategies for choosing an answer when your student doesn’t know the answer.
WHO SHOULD TAKE GREG LANDRY’S ACT PREP?
Any student who is planning on taking the ACT. Whether it’s a student’s first, only or last time to take the ACT, Greg Landry’s ACT Prep has been designed for them!
HOW MUCH IS GREG LANDRY’S ACT PREP?
$380 includes the Class Recordings and the Homework Assignments (PDFs). Students are also required to obtain the print version of The Official ACT Prep Guide {about $35 on Amazon.}
HOW IS GREG LANDRY’S ACT PREP FORMATTED?

Every Homework Assignment is clearly organized with each expectation laid out followed by pertinent questions posed.

The Class Recordings are about 45-50 minutes in length and include Mr. Landry sharing his wealth of knowledge in an engaging manner. You can both see and hear him at the same time (some online classes do not show the teacher which results in a weird, disconnected relaying of the information) while simultaneously being able to see the slide he is presenting.

DOES GREG LANDRY’S ACT PREP QUALIFY AS HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT?
Yes! This class includes enough content for 1 semester of test taking and college study skills.
WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER GREG LANDRY’S ACT PREP?
Because the score your student earns on the ACT may make the difference in a college acceptance decision or in thousands, or tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships and grants.
For more information from Mr. Landry about the above statement and also to hear a podcast episode about why he suggests focusing on JUST the ACT {as opposed to the SAT,} go here.

ARE THERE OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GREG LANDRY’S HOMESCHOOL SCIENCE?
Yes! A few things…
- The only negative I found with this class {and it is teeny, tiny} is the fact that the Class Recordings are literally recordings of previous live classes. This means that Mr. Landry recorded himself teaching real students in a previous live class which results in him occasionally saying things like, “That is correct, Sally” or “What an excellent question, Joe.” The class chat text also appears on the side at times. Neither of these are distracting or take away from the learning process by any means but some might consider it a factor worth knowing about.
- Mr. Landry’s Homeschool Science also offers the only virtual science labs created specifically for homeschooling families! You can check one out for free {and get some other amazing freebies from him too} by going here.
- If you are into podcasts, you might enjoy the Homeschool Moms Science Podcast.
- If you like homeschool mama swag, check out this free sticker or magnet that Mr. Landry will send you in the mail!

My son has only taken a peek at this class as he wants to save it until it’s closer to test time. We both seem to think it will be helpful, but there is really no way to tell until he takes the ACT again. Stay tuned for an update later this fall when I sure hope we can show a huge improvement in his score!

UPDATE 08/18/23
Countdown to Test: 22 DAYS!
After just one class session, I cannot believe what I have seen my son doing and the effort he has been inspired to put into it!
- He watched a class recording.
- He took notes during class.
- He did a wee bit of prep.
- He took his first Practice Test.
And those were the easy parts {Practice Test included.}
- He scored his Practice Test.
- He made a spreadsheet of his missed questions.
- He categorized the missed questions into sections.
- He evaluated why he missed each question and took notes.
- He is now studying through how to improve the questions he missed.
- He also compared his Cold Score* to the score of his First Practice Test and analyzed the reasons for the changes in each score (some went up and some went down.) He clearly overcorrected in some areas which messed up other areas.
Stay tuned for another update at the end of this week.
